Sasan Gir National Park History:

The Gir Forests were established as a National Park in 1969. I’m going to tell you how its history originates back more than a century. Their species has been at risk of moving since ancient times as a result of excessive lion hunting among other factors. Only 15 lions were remaining in Gujarat in 1900 after the lion species had gone extinct in many other Indian states. The Nawab of Junagadh prohibited the hunting of lions and designated the Gir region as a protected sanctuary to preserve the declining lion population.

This was an amazing experience. We got to see so many lions , leopards, deers, birds and owls. Took the early morning safari so was very easy to spot them as they were awake. If you go later the animals might go to sleep and you might miss out. Reach early at the reception desk as there might be a big line for the permits check and driver guide assignment. Don’t carry any plastics as it is strictly prohibited. Overall totally worth the money and experience. Highly recommended for all groups

Absolute must to visit. If you are lucky, you’ll see lions. There are also so many other animals and birds. Take the first safari at 6am that offers the best chance of seeing lions. We went late October and it got quite cold in the moving open vehicle (we are used to extreme cold); take a sweater to be comfortable. You can’t take plastic water bottles into the jungle, so need to purchase a Steel water bottle filled with water for $10. The bottle needs to be returned at the end of the tour. The bottle is huge and you can’t really drink during the trip. Therefore, either skip the water purchase or get only one.

Gir National Park is a breathtaking wilderness area that should be on the bucket list of any nature lover. The tower view point, the natural river and morning sunrise make it a wonderful and awesome experience for visitors to explore the park's lush green forests, rolling hills, and diverse wildlife. The 6:30 AM to 9:30 AM morning safari was fantastic. We had the opportunity to observe lions (which even walked behind our jeep for more than 7-8 minutes), as well as deer, peacocks and other birds and animals. It was an incredible experience. The Jeep Safari at Gir National Park is a must which promises a truly unforgettable experience.
